The dandelion - a medicinal plant for gourmets

Like every year, the villages of Alta Val di Non/Deutschnonsberg honor the dandelion with a dedicated festival. The dandelion has traditionally been regarded as a type of weed, somewhat unjustly, having been appreciated for its medicinal powers for a long time.

It grows in the high altitudes of Alta Val di Non/Deutschnonsberg and its untouched meadows. In an age marked by wrong or unhealthy nutritional habits and other illnesses caused by civilization, the beneficial effects of the dandelion are appreciated more than ever. Thus, the ancient medicinal plant has managed to recover some of its reputation. It stimulates kidney and liver activity and it therefore one of the most effective remedies used in detoxification cures.

The special properties of the dandelion plants were brought to the forefront by the famous herbal-priest Weidinger during the debut of the “Dandelion weeks” in Alta Val di Non in 1996. Since then the dandelion has become a symbol of the Alta Val di Non.

Each year from late April to early May, the inns of Alta Val di Non/Deutschnonsberg serve culinary delicacies with the local dandelion as their main ingredient.
Additionally, special themed vacation packages are on offer.
