Vacations in the National Park
Santa Gertrude/St. Gertraud is one of the highest locations in Val d'Ultimo/Ultental. On an altitude of 1,519 meters above sea level you will find a romantic, 700-year old little chapel offering stunning views of the river and valley.
The resort is located right at the end of the valley, only few kilometers from Lake Fontana Bianca/Weißbrunnsee, which is a good departure point for many hikes and tours in the Passo dello Stelvio/Stilfseerjoch National Park. The area is renowned for its wealth of mountain lakes, soft Alpine meadows and spectacular 3,000-meter mountain summits. From here you can also traverse the peaks to get to Val Martello/Martelltal and Val di Non/Nonstal. The Lahner Säge Nature Park center provides loads of information about Val d'Ultimo/Ultental and its cultivation by man.
Last but not least, don’t forget to visit a true miracle of nature, the legendary Ulten larches, many of which are more than 2,000 meters high, with a circumference of more than 8 meters and a height of up to 36 meters.
Giancarlo Godio was the first award-winning chef in South Tyrol. In the 1970s and 1980s he was the manager of Restaurant Enzian in Fontana Bianca/Weißbrunn at the very end of Val d'Ultimo/Ultental. The restaurant was famous for a unique combination of modern and traditional cuisine.
