Eschenlohe Castle – a truly mystical place
Eschenlohe Castle is located at the crossroads between Rio Fratta/Hagenbach and Valsura/Falschauer high above San Pancrazio/St. Pankraz im Val d'Ultimo/Ultental. It was owned by the legendary Eschenlohe family. The famous German writer Beda Weber called it one of the most magnificent scenarios in the Alps.
The Castle was first mentioned in 1164 and during 1004 and 1492 was owned by the Trapp family. The Castle owes its name to the Eschenlohe family who once reigned over the valley of Val d'Ultimo/Ultental.
The protective ring wall and part of the annex can still be seen today, as well as the mighty medieval tower.
Unfortunately, castle visits are not possible.
