Mountain lakes
Many of the Val D’Ultimo’s mountain lakes are remnants of the ice age. After the melting of the glaciers that covered the alps thousands of years ago, many scraped-out basis remained. These were the origins of the moraine lakes that we see today.
The following are some of the most beautiful lakes in Val d'Ultimo/Ultental and Alta Val di Non/Deutschnonsberg:
Lago di Luco/Laugensee
Lago di Luco/Laugensee is situated in a basin between the two peaks of Monte Luco Grande/Großer Laugen and Monte Luco Piccolo/Kleiner Laugen. The crystal-clear mountain lake is located at about 2,180 meters above sea level, reachable in about 2.5 hours’ walking time from Passo delle Palade/Gampenpass.
Lago di Tret/Lago di Tret/Felixer Weiher
This popular bathing lake is located near San Felice/St. Felix in Alta Val di Non/DeutschnonIt is known for its excellent water quality. You can reach the lake on a hiking path from San Felice/ St. Felix which will take you about 45 minutes.
Lago Trenta/Alplahnersee
This lake is located slightly above an alpine pasture with the same name at about 2,300 m. The direct footpath to get there from Santa Gertrude/St. Gertraud in Val d'Ultimo/Ultental leads to the outer and inner Alplahner pastures first and then continues up to Alplahner See/Lago Trenta.
Laghi del Cóvolo/Koflrastersee
The Laghi del Cóvolo/Koflrastersee lakes (2,400 m) lie above Santa Valburga/St. Walburg, in Val d'Ultimo/Ultental. They are only about a two hours' walk from the Simian farm.
Lago Lungo/Langsee
This lake is situated on 2,339m above Fontana Bianca/Weißbrunn, at the end of the Val d'Ultimo/Ultental valley. This is also the origin of the Valsura/Falschauer river, which flows through the entire valley.
Lago pescatori/Fischersee
This lake can be reached from Santa Gertrude/St. Gertraud in about 2.5 hours walking time. The dam is located at just over 2,000 m of altitude.
Lago di Valcomai/Falkomaisee
The three lakes are located above the Innerfalkomai alp at an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters. The Plomboden lake, one of the three lakes, has a length of 335 meters.
The Falkomai lake near the Ausserfalkomai alp is situated at an altitude of 2,170 meters and offers a dreamlike panoramic view of the Dolomites.
Lago Siromba/Schrummsee
The small but beautiful lake is accessible by foot through the pristine Val di Clapa/Klapfbergtal valley.
The Haselgruber lakes in the Stelvio National Park
Massive sheets of rock that were lifted up by ice age glaciers surrounded the Haselgruber lakes. They lie at approximately 2,544 meters above sea-level and can be reached from Santa Gertrude through the Kirchberg valley.
