“Border culture – cultural border": Holidays close to nature in Alta Val di Non

In Alta Val di Non in Southwestern South Tyrol there is a South facing high plateau, where north and south meet. The provincial environment has remained virtually untouched by the events occurring in the outside world. The landscape around Alta Val di Non is characterized by green forests, woods and meadows and crystal clear mountain lakes all surrounded by the mountain range of the Maddalene, which is part of the Ortles-Cevedale formation. From these peaks one can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view that stretches from the Brenta-Dolomites to the Catinaccio and on to the Tessa mountain range.

The resort of Alta Val di Non/Deutschnonsberg with its four yet untouched villages Proves/Proveis, Lauregno/Laurein, S. Felice/St. Felix and Senale/Unsere Liebe Frau im Walde boasts a rich and eclectic history. Due to its close proximity to the Trentino region, the inhabitants and culture of the area are strongly influenced by an intriguing mix of two diverse cultures. It is due to the efforts of the German-speaking majority that the region still belongs to Alto Adige/South Tyrol today.

In the old days, the resort could only be reached painstakingly via Passo Mendola/Mendelpass and Passo delle Palade/Gampenpass. Today the area is accessible due to the new road from Val d'Ultimo/Ultental. Before this time the only approach from the South Tyrol side was via the Mendola pass or the Passo delle Palade.

Due to the resorts isolated location, many traditional customs and habits still prevail – if you are looking for an oasis of peace and calm close to untouched nature, then Alta Val di Non/Deutschnonsberg is perfect for you.
